One Hoodie, One Tracksuit, Seven Cities: The Ultimate Essentials Travel Test

Day 1 – Melbourne: Cold Hands, Warm Hoodie

Landed in Melbourne with my carry-on and not much else. Purposefully packed light — one Essentials Hoodie, one pair of Essentials Tracksuit pants. Thought I’d regret it. Didn’t.

Had a brekkie on Smith Street. Wore the hoodie with jeans and threw on a beanie. Felt… solid. Not overdressed, not sloppy. Warm without sweating. That’s saying something for Victoria in July.

Day 2 – Still Melbourne: Same Tracksuit, No Judgement

Slept in the Essentials Tracksuit bottoms. Woke up late, and rushed to grab a flat white — same pants, same hoodie. Honestly? Didn’t get a single weird look. A lady in a trench even asked where I got the Essentials Hoodie. “Essentials,” I said. She nodded like she already knew.

Took a tram to St Kilda. Cold wind off the water. The hoodie held its own.

Day 3 – Sydney: Hoodie = Flight Armour

Early flight to Sydney. Airport look: full Essentials Tracksuit, hoodie up, cap on, no shame. The security check guy said, “That’s a clean fit.” That never happens.

Flew economy. Slept most of the way. The hoodie didn’t bunch up. The pants didn’t ride. Got off at Mascot, straight into the CBD for lunch. Still felt put together. Weird.

Day 4 – Sydney (Again): City Strolls & Chill Vibes

Met mates at Circular Quay. Hoodie + track pants again — just layered with a light jacket. Walked all arvo, no complaints. The material’s breathable. Flexible. Sitting on steps by the Opera House. Caught my reflection — didn’t hate it.

Two teenage skaters were wearing the same hoodie, just different colours. Felt like part of a tribe I didn’t ask to join, but didn’t mind either.

Day 5 – Brisbane: Back Home, Still in the Hoodie

Brisbane winter’s a joke compared to Melbourne. Ditched the jacket. Rocked the hoodie solo. Tracksuit bottoms too. Drove out to Mount Coot-tha with my sister. She said I looked “less homeless than usual.” I’ll take that as a win.

The hoodie got a bit of dirt on the sleeve — wiped clean. Doesn’t stain easily. That’s honestly a big tick for me.

Day 6 – Gold Coast Day Trip: Too Hot, Still Worked

Took a day trip to the Goldie. Hoodie in the bag, track pants rolled up slightly. Walked barefoot on Burleigh Beach, pants survived the sand.

After sunset, the hoodie went back on. Kept the sea breeze off. Didn’t overheat. There’s something about the fabric — thick, but not smothering. Big fan.

Day 7 – Adelaide: Final Stop, Still Going Strong

Jumped on a cheap flight to Adelaide. Meeting some old uni mates. Wore the full Essentials Tracksuit again (yes, again). No wrinkles, no weird smells — and no one knew it was my seventh day in it.

We grabbed dinner on Rundle Street. Smart casual crowd. No one clocked me for wearing activewear. That’s how good the tailoring is. Even wore the hoodie into a wine bar. Still got served.

Wrap-Up: No Lies, Just Truths

Seven cities. Seven days. One Essentials Hoodie, one Essentials Tracksuit. Here’s what I figured out:

  • The hoodie doesn’t stretch out. Fits the same after a week.
  • Tracksuit pants don’t bag at the knees — rare.
  • Both wash and dry fast. Wore, washed, wore again.
  • I didn’t overheat. Even in QLD.
  • It’s the only set I didn’t get sick of wearing.
  • I looked better than I felt most days.

Would I Recommend It?

Yeah. If you hate overthinking what to wear and still want to look half-decent, this combo wins. The Essentials Hoodie is warm without bulk. The Essentials Tracksuit pants don’t scream “pyjamas” like most do.

It’s not “fashion.” It’s just a smart move.
